Product Description

The high-quality Contemporary Nonstick line of cookware is designed to meet the needs of busy families while offering the high-quality construction associated with the Calphalon brand. These pots and pans offers a stylish, attractive look while making cooking and cleanup for family meals or special occasions easy and low-stress. Contemporary Nonstick cookware replaces Calphalon’s original and highly popular Professional Nonstick II line--but with improvements to make it even better. The most obvious enhancement is in the versatile rounded and flared design of the pots and pans. This design makes a single pan suitable for various cooking techniques and provides better access for pouring and stirring. Also convenient is the capacity line on these pots and pans, which helps prevent cooks from overfilling them.

This set has all the pieces necessary for daily family cooking: 8-inch and 10-inch omelet pans, 1-1/2- and 2-1/2-quart covered saucepans, a 3-quart covered sauté pan, and an 8-quart covered stockpot. The pans’ exteriors are made of hard-anodized aluminum for superior heat distribution. The interiors are coated with a nonstick surface that is resistant to peeling, chipping, flaking, or cracking. This cookware has ergonomic brushed stainless-steel handles that stay cool to the touch on the stovetop and are riveted to the pans for durability. The lids are tempered glass--for viewing food as it cooks--encircled by a stainless-steel band that complements the cookware and fits snugly into the pans. All Contemporary Nonstick cookware is oven-safe up to 450 degrees F and is covered by a lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

Do NOT Hesitate to Buy These

Reviewer: Justin,
All reviews I have read here which are negative come without warrant. Seriously, read the directions before you use your cookware, no matter which brand you buy. Any non-stick cookware will tell you NOT to put it in the dishwasher. Dishwashers destroy non-stick coating, not to mention your warranty! The directions will tell you this. READ!

Now for review...

Cooking:
Heat a little hotter than my last set and will need to get used to it. However, at the same time it seems like boiling water takes a little longer. I am still trying to get the hang of them. Transferring straight to the oven is indispensable. I was never able to previously cook by sautéing, then transferring directly to oven for a few minutes. This is the only way to cook! Honestly, I always watched the pros cook in this fashion and let me tell you, now I know why! This set can withstand up to 450 F temps.

Cleaning:
I went from Circulon to Calphalon Contemporary. Night and day is the range of difference for cleaning. My wife even says she doesn't mind washing these pans one bit because they are so easy. She told me the other day that sometimes she could probably get away with just wiping them out with a paper towel. And, every time she cleans them, she always mentally thanks me for buying them.

Issues:
One issue I have notice is the tightness of the lids. They suck to the pans and are sometimes hard to remove. However, I think this might be better than if they didn't. If you need a solid seal it is there for you, if not, then crack them slightly. I have yet to stew chops with peppers and onions in this set, but I think it will work out great because of the quality seal.

Do not hesitate to buy this set. Just ask my wife!

6 Month UPDATE: I am still loving this set of cookware. Have definitely got a better grasp on cooking with them now and must say they continue to please both the wife and I.
Well-made, functional, fabulous-looking set

If you like quality, non-stick pans, and you like looking at your food while it cooks, then this is the perfect set for you.

There was some commentary on there being a paint/plastic-like substance under the glass covers--that was the case in the original version of these pans. I am not sure what it was exactly, but Calphalon noticed and addressed the issue. Any set that you order now has properly-made glass covers. In addition to that, if you ordered any of these pots and pans before Calphalon made that change, just notify their customer service people and they will send you replacement lids with no questions asked. I have great respect for a company that addresses its mistakes as quickly as it can through fabulous service.

As to putting these pans in the dishwasher--do NOT do it! Calphalon makes no claims that these pots and pans can go safely in the dishwasher, as, they are lined with _Teflon_. Just as you should use nylon utensils instead of scraping away the Teflon with your metal implements, you should also keep these pans out of the dishwasher as the machine will wear away your non-stick surface. Bottom line: the dishwasher will ruin your pans and void your warranty. Hand washing with non-abrasive sponges is the price you pay for the benefits of non-stick pans. If you don't want to deal with that, buy some stainless steel pans (Calphalon has a nice variety of those too).

As to how the interior lining (Teflon) holds up, I have burned milk in one of my pans, (n.b., scalding and burning are not synonymous in the realm of cooking), and the crud that remained just peeled away without doing any damage to the pan. (I let it soak for a bit to ensure that was the case, but I don't even think that was necessary). And, frying eggs is made so easy! I am even able to make eggs over easy without excessive breakage of the eggs:).

I would say that most people will probably best appreciate the non-stick qualities of the pans for the two frying pans and could safely get a set with non-stick frying pans and stainless steel pots. Calphalon has those varieties as well. Another thing to keep in mind is that non-stick pans do not brown as well as stainless steel or cast iron frying pans. I would recommend having one cast iron frying pan in your set for browning.

In addition to great quality, Calphalon has a lifetime warranty on this line of pans. Don't do anything to void your warranty, (like, put these pans in the dishwasher), and any problems you have with the pans will be remedied by Calphalon. Calphalon has proven to be a strong company thusfar, and I have no reason to suspect that their status will change anytime soon.

Overall, these pans are great for anyone who enjoys ease of cleanup, likes to cook low-fat meals, wants to be able to put their pots and pans in the oven, and/or enjoys a sleek, contemporary style in the kitchen.

Customer Service is Excellent!

I have purchased several individual pieces of the Calphalon Contemporary series. Out of the 8 pieces, that I have purchased individually, I have had two that had the "paint" defect on the lid. Both times I called Calphalon customer service first thing in the morning at about 8:00AM EST. Both times I waited less than 5 minutes to speak with a representative. Both times they simply took my name and address and asked me which lid I needed. Both times they immediately sent me a replacement lid which did not have the defect. Both times they did not require me to send anything back. Both times it required no effort on my part except to verbally tell them that the lid was defective.
I totally commend their customer service and will continue buy Calphalon products. It seems that some of you must be living on some other planet or something. I can not figure out why you seem to be having so many problems.

These Pot and pans are not made for the dishwasher. If you would have taken 10 minutes to read the care instructions prior to using them you would have known this. You are not to use Pam, Metal utensils or place in the dish washer. If you have any objections to these three things i would avoid the set but I Love mine!!

I purchased a 12 piece set of Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick Cookware for my wife's birthday. This is the second set that I have purchased for her. A few years back we bought the Calphalon Commercial Nonstick set and added pieces over the years. We recently decided that we needed to send back several pieces due to the nonstick surface starting to come off. We however could not send them off to be replaced (per the lifetime warranty)because we did not have any other cookware to use.

So...once we had the new set we used the box they came in to pack up the Calphalon Commercial Nonstick pieces that needed to be returned, enclosed a letter stating what the problem was, spent $20 to ship and insure, and less than two weeks later had new pieces to replace the old ones. Since they no longer make the Calphalon Commercial Nonstick pieces they were replaced with the Calphalon One Nonstick pieces. No hassle whatsoever!

We now have every type of pot and pan you could imagine and it is a mixture of Calphalon Commercial Nonstick, Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick and Calphalon One Nonstick. My wife loves it all! To show off her collection we purchased a pot/pan rack that attaches to the wall. With all of the pots and pans hanging my wife has taken such good care of them you cannot tell which ones are the oldest.

We both would highly recommend any product from Calphalon that has the Lifetime Warranty. When we initially purchased our first set of Calphalon we were like everyone else...just not sure about spending that much money on a set of pots and pans. We however was in a never ending cycle of spending $100+ every year or so to replace our pots and pans. Nothing held up. We now know that even if there is some type of defect that causes a problem with a Calphalon product they will definitely stand by their name. My wife did not believe this until her replacement pots/pans arrived.

Reader beware!!

This set of Cookware is nothing less than 5 star! I have cooked with many other brands of cookware and few can hold a candle to Calphalon. I have read many of the reviews of this cookware on this website and there are a few that are very misleading. First of all, if you don't know how to cook, this set is not for you. If you don't know how to take care of non-stick cookware, this set is not for you. I am a chef by trade and I can tell you with absolute certainty that this set will serve you well as long as you treat it well. DO NOT USE METAL UTENSILS, DO NOT USE HARSH CLEANERS, DO NOT CLEAN WHILE POTS AND PANS ARE STILL HOT!!! Follow these simple rules and you will LOVE this set of pots and pans!

Honestly... I do not, for the likes of me, understand why anyone would give this cookware a bad review. It appears that those who have, either can't read or didn't bother.

We have had our set of Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick for several months, and everyone in the family (mom, dad, two teenage sons) uses them. We use and wash them as directed. Also, we don't use any of the "Pam" type sprays. So far they still look great and the foods cooked in them are delicious!
I love cooking with these!

I got this cookware set as a wedding gift and have been nothing but happy with them since the first time I used them. The nonstick interior is wonderful. I have cooked a few different things including ground beef, pasta sauces, pasta, and mac and cheese. The meat browned nicely and never stuck to the pan (unlike my old aluminum pans where it would burn to the bottom). I even think the water boils faster...maybe it is just in my head, but I believe the pans distribute heat more evenly and the water boils faster.

I like the glass lids so I can see inside the pan. I can tell if the contents are boiling or simmering (whichever is called for in the recipe).

I forgot about the pasta sauce in the pan overnight and it cleaned out easily the next morning...just a quick rinse and it was clean. The cheese from the mac and cheese wasn't even a problem. I let that sit, too (I'm not exactly the quickest at cleaning up), but it came right off with no extra effort. So far, they have been the easiest pans to clean that I have ever owned. I used to hate washing my cookware, but since I got these, I am happy to clean them since it is so easy!

I highly recommend this cookware set to anyone who wants an easy-clean product that looks nice and cooks well.

Excellent pots and pans

Reviewer: J. Schreiber,
After reading all the "positive" reviews, I was ready for a good set of pots and pans. I'm so tired of getting cheap pans and a few years later having to throw them away. Calphalon was originally my 2nd choice, but after reading reviews on the other brand (which will now remain nameless) this set had more positive reviews and I was willing to give them a try.

So far I just love these pans!! You barely have to use any olive oil, which makes for healthier cooking. As for some of the negative reviews, if you read the instructions in the 1st place and realize you CANNOT put these in the dishwasher, then you will have no problems. I have standard stainless steel pots that you have to hand wash as well-case in point, always read the instructions.

I thought men were bad for not reading those important pieces of paper enclosed with their new purchases (instruction manuals do not compute in their world, usually)! I'm not adverse to getting my hands wet-to do otherwise is just plain laziness! Dishwashers are for dishes, silverware and glasses-do your pots and pans by hand. Clean up on these Calphalon pans is a snap. Just make sure they cool completely before you put in hot soapy water.

I ordered the Calphalon nylon cooking utensils to use with my pots, another no-brainer-just read your instructions and follow them.

I'm glad I purchased this set and the positive reviews helped me make my decision, so to those smart people I say "THANK YOU" for sharing your experience and expertise. I plan on using these for MANY years!!
Fantastic non-stick set!

We recently purchased this set after first trying out the Commercial Hard-Anodized pans. Everything stuck in these pans, so we tried non-stick. We are thrilled with this cookware set! They are truly non-stick; I haven't had any problems with sticking. Clean up is a breeze; they quickly clean up in soap and water with little to no scrubbing. And they look very classy in our kitchen. I cook 6-7 days/week - usually just for our family but we do entertain 1-2/month so they get a work out!

I would highly recommend these pots and pans and will be adding other Calphalon pieces to our set.

Non-stop WOWs from all the guests! Just that alone is enough

Bought this set for my mom. She shows it to all her guests, it has been non-stop WOWs. Just that alone is well worth it, not to mention it cooks wonderfully.

*Even heating - This is the 1st thing you'll notice when you upgrade to a high quality pot from a $10 pot.

*Faster heating
*Long lasting non-stick, even for abusive users
*Handles stays cool
*Can take the 450 degree oven
*Warranty actually works, take it to any store that sells Calphalon and they'll replace it.

If you enjoy cooking and can afford a little luxury, this is definitely recommended. Remember to buy another cheap item so you get the 12" wok free, that wok is another awesome product.
Loving them!!

I purchased my Calphalon Contemporary set about a month ago, and I'm very impressed. So far, NOTHING seems to stick to these pans! I've even accidentally burned a few dishes (they require less heat that I'm used to), and not even the burned portions stuck to the pans. Clean-up is a breeze. The Teflon is holding up very well, and has proven to be resistant to scratches. The set is very attractive and the feel of it is great - not too heavy, not too light. Being able to go from stove top to oven, is also a great plus. I also purchased the "grill" pan, and I'm very happy with it as well. I'd recommend this set without reservations.
Great so far.

Bought these for my wife for Christmas (at her request), and for the past few weeks she has loved them. The only thing negative I can think of is that they are a little more work to take care of. But hey, it's well worth it in the end. She enjoys cooking more......I eat more!!

Your review is filled with inaccuracies and incorrect information.
1) Calphalon Contemporary NS cookware is not sold at Target.
2) You CAN'T put this cookware (or the product available at Target) in the dishwasher as it clearly states - I mean why would you need to with a nonstick coating
3)There is no PAINT on this cookware, or the cookware sold at Target
4) I have dealt with Calphalon Customer support many times before and they offer world class support and will always replace damaged product (except when you put it through the dishwasher)
Great product, right price, incredible style

Calphalon has done it again!! These pans are so stylish and versatile, it makes cooking fun and easy. I can leave food in these pans overnight and they clean out with no soap and barely any water - it really makes my life much easier. The flared rims make the pans so versatile, and no one on the market has that kind of look! I highly recommend this cookware to anyone, they are great!
